CCHL and CJHL Announce 2010 Battle of Ontario
December 15th, 2009
The Central Canadian Hockey League and the Central Junior Hockey League are pleased to announce that the 2010 “Battle of Ontario” will be taking place on January 2nd, 2010 in Pembroke, Ontario. The event marks the second of its kind after the inaugural “Battle of Ontario” on January 17th, 2009 went down as a tremendous success.

As both the CCHL and CJHL continue to share similar philosophies in terms of education and the development and advancement of players on to high levels of hockey, the success of the 2009 event made it a natural decision to do it again in 2010.

“The CJHL and CCHL have both taken leadership roles in forging an exciting future for Junior A hockey,” said CJHL Commissioner Kevin Abrams. “With the focus on player development and advancement along with a priority on academic opportunities, both groups have been widely recognized in collegiate and professional ranks as a viable path to higher levels of hockey.”

“It's obvious that the direction of the CJHL lead by Kevin (Abrams) and the Central Canadian Hockey League are both going in the same direction, that direction is the development of our players,” added CCHL Director of Hockey Operations Perry Bowles. “This showcase event was an incredible success last year and a key component in the development for players in both leagues.”

Once again hosted by the Pembroke Lumber Kings at the Pembroke Memorial Centre, the day will feature two marquee events – a “Young Stars Game” between the top 16 and 17 year old players (1992 and 1993 born players) from the CCHL and the CJHL followed by an evening “All Star Game” between the top 18, 19 and 20 year old players (1989, 1990 and 1991 born players) from both leagues.

"It is exciting to once again host the “Battle of Ontario” in Hockey Town Canada,” said Abrams. “The community of Pembroke ranks among Canada's best hockey cities and their support is overwhelming for events like this.”

“The Pembroke Lumber Kings ‐ the host organization for the event ‐ did an unbelievable job last year,” recalled Bowles. “Our players, staff and fans who attended last year’s event were very impressed with the event as were the scouts that attended.”

With scouts from a wide variety of levels including the NCAA, CHL, CIS and NHL expected to be on hand, these games will be unlike a traditional All Star Game setting, instead featuring high level, competitive and intense hockey as was seen during the inaugural event in 2009.

“With over half of the players already committed to NCAA programs, or on the radar of NHL scouts, the calibre of play will be outstanding,” said Abrams.

“These leagues represent the majority of players named to both Team Canada East at the World Junior Challenge and Team East in the Prospects Challenge. Fans and scouts can expect two great games on January 2nd.”

“The CCHL is very excited to be part of this great event again this year that showcases our players,” commented Bowles. “Both the CCHL and CJHL continue in their efforts to promote and develop our players in a way that elevates the level of competition while ensuring exposure to scouts from all levels of hockey such as the CHL, NHL, CIS, and NCAA.”

Complete rosters including players, coaches, and management staff for teams from both leagues will be announced on December 12
th, 2009.

Tickets will go on sale shortly with purchase locations in both the CCHL and CJHL territories to be announced. Single game adult tickets will sell for $10 while a two game package to see both the “Young Stars Game” and the “All Star Game” will sell for $15.
