The Cobourg Cougars turned a slim one-goal lead after one period of Central Canadian Hockey League junior A play into a decisive 9-1 victory over the Whitby Fury at home on Saturday night.
The Cougars scored three times unanswered in the second period before adding five more in the third. Stefan Thompson and Dylan McMahon each registered four-point nights for the Cougars.
Defenceman Lawton McCracken scored the only goal of the first period while McMahon, Thompson and James Diminie bolstered Cobourg's lead in the second.
Thompson tallied twice more in the third for a hat trick. McMahon and James Diminie each recorded his second of the night while Matt Diminie also scored for the Cougars, which outshot Whitby 52-29.
Cobourg was coming off a 4-2 defeat in Bowmanville on Friday night.
Tonight, the Cougars (with six wins and 14 losses overall) host the Ajax Attack (9-10). Game time is 7 p. m. at the Cobourg Memorial Arena.
